WJBK Fox 2

While television as a medium is increasingly becoming a source of news on the web, which is why my work at a TV station specialized in social media output, it is still a strikingly important source of news. People like using their eyes. They want to visualize the news that is being presented to them. It may just appear to be two broadcasters behind a desk, but those two personalities might be the reason why viewers have their eyes on the television. What happens next is up to them.
My work at WJBK Fox 2 represented not just my first steps in a television studio, but the first "real world" experience I would dip my toes into. As a social media intern, most of my time was spent with a team of two web producers generating content from the camera a few rooms over to the web where a growing representation of the stations audience resided.

Web production and social media branding is a new limb of the media conglomerate and is still far from being perfected by those that utilize the tool. But it's also an imperatively important branch of news that can't be ignored, not with so many finding their sources of news at the click of a link rather than the change of a channel or the turn of a news page.

Fox 2, reached 500,000 followers by the time of my departure, more than anyone in the metropolitan area.  So as I produced content, clipping videos, generating the social media post and tweaking the news put out by the station, it was never any mystery to me that more than half a million people were viewing my posts. Even without a byline on the above posts, the experience I have from this time is way more valuable than any online attribution.
